Blue Whales
Sri Lanka is now becoming a very popular destination for Whale watching. Mainly due to resident Blue Whales off the coast of Mirissa where the continental shelf is very close to the shore. Therefore, just under one hours boat trip to the Indian Ocean, you are at the very heart of the Whale inhabited sea. In Mirissa, chances are very high (99%) that you see this magnificent creature in its natural habitat.
Best time to go Whale watching from Mirissa is from October to April. During your family holiday in Sri Lanka, Whale watching off the coast of Mirissa is a must. The cheapest mode of taking part in Whale watching is to join a scheduled set departure boat but if you wish to make it private, we have the option for chartering a private Whale watching boat for you.
We also have luxury sailing catamaran which goes out to the sea for Whale watching which is a 7 hours experience. This expedition departs from the port in Mirissa each day from October to April. Ideal for families, small groups, and friends. Sail Lanka offers a perfect balance of whale watching and watersports such as stand up paddle boarding in a 7-hour adventure that is certain to please even the most discerning sailor. Breakfast, refreshments and lunch is provided onboard. Same trip is also available sailing out from Trincomalee in the east coast from May to September.
